I should come with a warning label

Today I had costume fitting for Romeo and Juliet.
That went well, I guess, I won't have to go onstage with out clothing at least, but I can't promise it will stay on.
Let's just say my hips must be a bit smaller than whoever wore the pants last...

We tried out a bit of mustache make-up this evening too. They are trying to help me as much as possible with the whole 'being a man thing' as they can.
When I was about to leave one of the guys told me not to forget to wash of my make-up before school tomorrow.
Of course I had to reply with 'it doesn't matter, I'm home schooled, I can keep it on as long as I like."
Every head in the room tunred towards me
A chorus of "You're home schooled?" sounded right no-cue.

I'm used to the usual questions like:
"Do you get to wear you pajama's all day?"
"Do you have friends?"
"Are you anit-social?"
"Do you get to sleep in?"
"Can you just go to the bathroom when ever you want?"

I've gotten several outrageous responses and ridiculous questions in the past, but this has been my favourite yet.

Someone(no name stated) said:

"You're homeschooled,  do you watch Mean Girls?"

I mean seriously people.
Seriously.
This is the most important question to ask a homeschooler?
This is the first thing that pops into people's minds?
A ridiculous cliche chick flick about highschool angst, rebellion, and scary girls?
Is that really how homeschoolers are seen?
I must say, I am proud to be a homeschooler, and I enjoy laughing at the world's ignorance, but sometimes I wonder what people really think about this thing that I'm so used to and can't imagine my life with out.

I'm used to it by now, but I still find intriguing every time someone asks a question that shows how little they know about anything outside of their little bubble of existence.

My other favourite response to me being homeschooled is, "You're homeschooled? But you're so normal!"
I resent being considered normal, but I guess most people consider it a compliment or something like that.

Maybe I should just have a label or carry a sige or something that announces to the world that I am indeed homeschooled so it doesn't come as such a shock to everyone.

I guess my point is, to everyone who's homeschooled or is raising a homeschooler, get used to the questions now, come up with good comebacks, and keep a good sense of humor.

It will all come in useful.

another homeschool day back in time

On Friday there was another home school day at the same heritage village we went to before, this time with a Christmas flare.
I was there with the Princess and the Baby by myself for the first little bit.
I didn't have my camera out for very long, but I did get a couple shots at the beginning, before mom and the Superhero came back to play with us.

Here the Princess is decorating a salt dough ornament for the Christmas tree.

It was so sunny and warm that it was strange to walk into all the buildings and see them decorated for the holidays.

Look at our little charmer.

There were Carolers at the little church singing Christmas songs, even the store had things displayed that people would have been buying for Christmas in 1914.

The kids actually went inside most of the buildings this time, compared to last time, when the most interesting things were all the toys and games set out on the grass.
The had a good look at what they wanted to see, and then they played in the lovely sunshine for the rest of the afternoon.
There was a perfect hill for rolling down that kept them entertained for quite sometime.

Now that the kaleidoscope of fall is coming to an end, there are barely any colours left. But there is always something interesting to look at, somewhere.

Halloween Fun

We had a great Halloween this year.

We usually have dress up every day, but it's always more fun when we have company in our favourite activity.
The Princess and the Superhero went through  several costumes through out the course of the day.

We totally forgot about our pumpkins that had been waiting outside, ready for us to carve, for more than a week.
We finally got around to bringing them inside, and the kids had a blast pulling out the stringy seeds, coated in slimy wonderfulness.

Can you tell they're enjoying it?

The little Princess wasn't afraid to get her hands dirty.

SLIMY!!!!

We all got into our costumes after supper.
The kids became a little rolly-polly with all the layers we had them wrapped up in.
Superman took a break for the evening.
Robin and Batman we on the scene.

The princess loved getting her face ready for the evening. She was supposed to be a butterfly fairy, so I just ended up covering her face with all the brightly coloured eye shadow I could find.
She looked super cute in her huge fluffy dress, but she didn't stay in that for too long.
It was way to big for her(it's even too big on me!) and she had a hard time trying not to trip in it.
So that only lasted for the very first part of the evening.
It's so fun to dress up for Halloween, the kids loved trick-or-treating, even the Baby did!
He got right into it, plunging his hands into every outstretched bowl.
The Princess was satisfied when she filled her bag.
She said. "It's so full! It's like I'm rich!"
And with that she headed back to show mom her loot, but Robin The Boy Wonder was no where near done.
He filled nearly three bags of candy, and he can't even eat half of it... allergies are so unfair.

All in all it was a fabulous excuse for the kids to show everyone their costumes and stay up late.

The finished product.
Aren't they the cutest.
